Identifying the need for training




Before making the assumption, that training is the best solution to fill the performance gaps, the need for training should be clearly established. Because providing training without having determined a need leads to a waste of time, money and many other resources.

So, the first step in any training is to determine the training need' As cited by Moeini, H. (2008) describes needs analysis as “ an examination of the existing need for training within an organization.” (Mitchell, 1993) In the current context this needs analysis called Training Needs Analysis of Training Needs Assessment and it’s abbreviated by TNA.

A TNA may identify more than one training need. These needs should be prioritized and either placed into a formal training plan or from a database for future training. TNA is utilized to identify what training programmes or activities should be provided to employees to improve their work productivity.

In terms of the five categories of training needs listed by Rae (1992)

1.  Newcomers to an organization.

2.  A Change in work within an office.

3.  Improvement of a poor performer

4.  Development requirements.

5.  Consideration of a potential promote

  1. conducting a training program is very expensive for the organization. Therefore take out some of the selected employees and join them in another organization in the industry or training place to get experience in the expected field. The manager can follow others by them.

  2. Proper training needs evaluation will help to create a better T & D Plan and execution of the same. Also, selecting the suitable T & D methods is more important to effective delivery of T & D programs.

  3. Proper training is the backbone of any successful organization. Properly trained employees are satisfied with a more productive, efficient workplace experience. TNA uses it to identify training programs or activities that employees should be given to improve their work productivity. TNA allows identifying knowledge and technical skills gaps before they become a problem, allowing training to focus on the right areas.
