HRD ASK Model

As mentioned earlier about the components of the ASK model, it is a model which helps human resource development from the initial stage when it begins from recruitment. From this perspective, the model tries to sum up the basic expectations from any new entrant and explicit the required characteristics that can be measured and assessed' This model aims to provide the basic requirement for the new entrant to perform better in their jobs in any given industry, with the means to identify and determine the assessment criteria for their achievements. Based on the ASK triangle the knowledge accounts,  only for 15 per cent, which consists only of the technical and general knowledge required to perform a job. Subjective and objective knowledge is not enough to perform in any given profession or job, while the skills and the Attitude together account for 85 per cent. Attitudinal aspect covers the areas consisting of Integrity, hard work" commitment, maturity, positive attitude, sensitivity, emotionally stable" enthusiasm, nonjudgmental and empathy' Skills should be acquired listening, questioning, communication, objectivity, responsive and the skills learn and developed by experiences' In this too the Attitude is of more criticality than the skills' The underlying theme of the ASK is that knowledge and skills can be acquired while the attitude needs to be there internally or to be there internally or to be developed by a human resource development personal such as a coach, a mentor or a facilitator.

As cited by Bakarman, A.A. (2007) the development of ASK begins from Vinke’s (2002) definition of the competency as “ the ability of an individual to select and use the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary for effective behaviour in a specific professional, social or learning situation.”

The three components create the conceptual framework for the ASK model into its essential parts and competencies as required to succeed in any given job or profession.
